ALPINE WINTER MAGIC COMES TO SYDNEY
Gourmet food, drink and ice action turn Sydney CBD into a Winter Wonderland
Enjoy the delights of an authentic European winter in the heart of the city as the Australian Winter Festival comes to Sydney from 28th July. Following incredible success in 2010 the Australian Winter Festival returns to the Sydney’s Cathedral Square for its third consecutive year.
This year’s festival will offer the most exciting line-up yet; an array of gourmet winter food sensations, some dazzling action on the ice and authentic après ski experiences to enhance the atmosphere.
In an Australian first, two exciting new Winter Festival activities come exclusively to Sydney. The Australian Winter Festival is delighted to add exciting new ice carving demonstrations and workshops to their 2011 line-up, along with the amazing Ice Blitz Championship. Watch in awe as professional ice artisans use a chainsaw to create an artistic marvel, or join a workshop to learn about ice as an artistic medium. Alternatively, join the Ice Blitz Championships, an action-packed relay race where competing teams race around the rink in the hope of becoming the Ice Blitz Champion.

The Sydney Winter Festival offers a myriad of Winter-themed delights, from the exhilarating through to the mouth-watering.
Thrill seekers can enjoy a skate on one of the country’s largest outdoor ice skating rinks, measuring an impressive 1,000m², whilst food-lovers can sample some of the most delicious dishes from over 20 winter-loving countries. There will be 12 delicious food stands to choose from and an amazing Alpine Ski Hut, which includes a heated outdoor terrace.
Relax with a traditional Glühwein (authentic mulled wine) at the Festival’s stylish Alpine Ski Hut, or rock on to live music and entertainment at the Illuminated Cubic Bar. Feeling the cool? Warm up at the Lipton Chai Latte Lounge.
Entry to the Festival is free. Ice skating can be booked online at www.winterfestival.com.au and costs $20 for adults / $15 for kids, which includes a 45 minutes skating session. An additional $7 for ice-skate rental. In previous years ice skating for most sessions sold out prior to the event, so we highly recommend booking your tickets online beforehand.
